2021 has been a hot time for musicians in the Chippewa Valley to drop new tunes, and last week, we had the chance to (virtually) chat with the artist behind one of these releases, Austin Derks. Austin is the front-man of Chamber Noise, a band that is currently on a hiatus, as well as this brand new solo- project called Courtside Lush. Even while Chamber Noise has been on an indefinite hiatus, Austin has not stopped making the groovy, woozy music.
A project that began in 2018 with a lifelong buddy, Courtside Lush is set to release a new debut album, Swoonlight, out March 5th, 2021. “Sift”, the first single that dropped on January 14th, 2021, was the first track written for this forthcoming album. Now with an added sense of nostalgia in the midst of a pandemic, this track is inspired from the time between 2:20AM-2:45AM when one is being thrusted out of a bar at closing time, chaotic yet quiet. “Like a spaceship to enter an endless vaccum. But instead of exploring, we often get caught up in the cyclical nature of things. They’re habits – grid-like, we love to repeat the never changing revelation. Whether it’s good or bad,” said Austin regarding “Sift”.
